Best Cities to Visit in Switzerland 

Switzerland is famous for its beautiful mountains and sparkling lakes, but its cities are also full of surprises! I visited Switzerland last spring, and I can tell you that this country is at its most beautiful state in this period when the flowers are blooming, the grass is green, and in the mountains, you can still see the last snow of the winter.

While there, I visited some of the best cities to visit in Switzerland. And there is a clear reason for why you should visit them. However, if you do not have time to visit all the cities in Switzerland, you can just stick to the ones close to you.

What are the Best Cities to Visit in Switzerland?

There are many beautiful cities and villages, but what is the best city to visit in Switzerland?

1. Zurich: Big City by a Beautiful Lake

Zurich is Switzerland’s biggest city, and it’s a lively place. It has fancy shops along Bahnhofstrasse, a cool Old Town, and a beautiful lake called Zurichsee. You can take a boat trip, visit the shops, or just relax by the water.

While you’re here, make sure to visit: 

  • Bahnhofstrasse: Stroll down this famous shopping street, lined with luxury stores and Swiss watches.
  • Swiss National Museum: Learn everything about Swiss history and culture at this museum.
  • Boat trip on Lake Zurich: Take a relaxing boat ride and enjoy the stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains.
  • Uetliberg Mountain: Hike or take a train to the top of this mountain for beautiful panoramic city views.
  • Lindt Home of Chocolate: Indulge your sweet tooth with a tour and chocolate tasting at this famous chocolate factory. (P.S. This was my favorite stop)

2. Bern: Fairytale Capital with Bears?

Bern is Switzerland’s capital city, and it’s like stepping into a storybook. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with buildings from hundreds of years ago. You can even see real bears living in the city center!

  • Zytglogge Clock Tower: Marvel at the intricate astronomical clock and its hourly show.
  • Bear Pits: See the resident bears roaming freely in their special enclosures within the city.

  • Einstein House: Visit the former home of Albert Einstein, where he developed his theory of relativity.

3. Lucerne: Picture-Perfect City on a Lake
